Halal and non-Halal

Ever since I was little, my parents only bought halal meat and halal food in general. As I started growing up, I really wanted to find out for myself why it’s important to eat halal and how would I know if something is zabiha( halal) or not.
The following was the list of things I learned:
  1. The animal is itself is Halal meaning it’s permissible to eat by the Quran.
  2. The food the animal consumes does not contain any blood or meat. The animal has to be herbivorous to be Halal, and an animal becomes Haram if it consumes blood and/ or meat.

  3. It should not be given any hormones

Not too long ago, I heard about ” it’s ok to eat chicken just say Bismillah” and I was shocked where that came from. For years, I believed that eating halal  meant eating something that Gods name has been said upon. There is a great misconception among Muslims about what is Halal and what is Haram when it has been clearly stated in the Quran ( look below for reference).

Many people refer to the Quran passage that states that it is acceptable to eat meat that has been slaughtered by the people of the book meaning Jews and Christians but let’s not forget that the way animals are killed and slaughtered is not the same as it was hundred years ago.

The biggest problem in the United States is the way animals are killed. There’s just no way we can assume something is halal when it has been tortured and killed. The Halal certification in USA, states that meats like chicken in the industry are not Halal because of the effect electric shock has on blood draining. Electric shock doesn’t let all the blood leave the body and it clearly states in the Quran that consuming blood is Haram. Also, the electric shock affects the central nervous system, the meat is injected with female hormones as well as preservatives nitrite or nitrate in meat. These react with amino group of amino acid of the meat or protein and produce nitroso- amine which is a red pigment that keeps meat looking red and fresh even if it has been on the shelf for one or two weeks. It has been proven that is causes cancer so, considering all of the above I have mentioned, it pretty clear to me why eating halal is important for our health.

“O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.” Quran 2:168

“Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah , and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death], and those which are sacrificed on stone altars, and [prohibited is] that you seek decision through divining arrows. That is grave disobedience. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. But whoever is forced by severe hunger with no inclination to sin – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” Quran 5:3
“And do not eat of that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned, for indeed, it is grave disobedience. And indeed do the devils inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Him].” Quran 6:121
” Say, “I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine – for indeed, it is impure – or it be [that slaughtered in] disobedience, dedicated to other than Allah . But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], then indeed, your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful.”  Quran 6:145

Also maybe by connecting your phone number to your account, you could make it more secure so that it would be harder for someone to try to hack your account. I haven’t had any problems with WordPress and I’m sorry for your experience. Hope it all works out though!
